Leather Cord End Cap Fit and Gluing DIY Lesson

    1. Preparing the End Cap and Cord for Fitting

Take the end cap with its corresponding leather cord size. We are using three-millimeter cording with a three-millimeter end cap. Take apart the end cap we are going to dry fit the cording to test if it will need any altering before gluing. If the cord does not fit, try cutting it on an angle using a straight razor or cutting tool using multiple strands and one end cap may call for these techniques. This three by five flat braided cord is 10 mm wide. The round end cap has an inside diameter of 10 mm. These do not translate into the same dimension. You may have to fold over or pinch the flat cord in order for it to fit into the proper size end cap.

    2. Glue Preparation and Selection

Once you have tested its fit, you are ready to glue. We will first separate the end cap so there will be no resistance to pull the cord out before it is dry. There are many glues to choose from. On our website, we will explain how to use all of them.

    3. Applying the Glue to the End Cap

Using Loctite, which has a needle nose tip, you can insert it directly into the end cap. Using either the Quick Rip or the Beacon. Squeeze a small amount onto a paper plate, and using a toothpick, insert a small amount into the end cap. Using epoxy, squeeze both parts onto a paper plate and using a toothpick, mix thoroughly. Once mixed, take a small amount on the toothpick and insert it into the end cap.

    4. Inserting the Cord and Finalizing the Piece

After gluing, insert the cord and twist slightly, then let dry. Once dry, reattach the ends together and it's ready to wear.
